Clermont Show Committee are in full swing preparing for the 2023 Clermont Show – The Isaac Region’s Show, to be held from Monday 29th May to Wednesday 31st of May. The Show Public Holiday for the community will be Wednesday.
More competition schedules will update this month and be available on the Schedules page. Ensure you have a look at what you could enter for this year’s Show! Pavilion, Dairy Goats, Poultry and Caged Birds are already live.
Poultry Update – Eggxciting Changes
There are some egg-xciting things going on in the poultry pavilion this year. Egg classes have been moved to the poultry pavilion with more classes and chances to win. Even a class for the LARGEST EGG (one egg from any breed of bird) if you have an emu egg laying around feel free to bring it along.
Since the chook pen raffle was very successful in 2019, it’s back again bigger and better. Keep an eye out for raffle ticket sales starting in another month.
Even if you only have a few backyard layers, there’s a class for you, so don’t be scared, enter and bring along some of your feathered friends.

The Cattleman’s Challenge Update – Did you know?
The Cattleman’s Challenge is a unique competition held over a 12-month period. Competitors enter a pen of 5 steers ideally weighing under 320kg each into the Clermont Show one year and the overall result is announced at the Clermont Show the following year upon completion of all elements of the competition.
All steers entered are grazed on the same property for 250 days, then fed grain for 100 days at Paringa Feedlot. On entry into the competition the cattle are judged at the Clermont Show for their suitability to grow for the 100-day grain fed market and on their compliance on the entry weight.
Throughout the year, the steers are judged on weight gain both on grass and then on grain. The exhibitors then nominate 1 steer from their pen to be sent to JBS Australia’s Rockhampton processing plant to be judged as a carcass. A pen of 3 is selected to be judged at the upcoming Clermont Show as a pen of 3 steers most suitable for the 100-day grain fed market.
Once the carcass is judged, the final stage involves a blind taste test with 5 judges deciding the best steak. Points are awarded for each of the 5 sections of the competition. With the overall winners being crown the Clermont Challenge Cattle King determined on the following basis: First 5 points; Second 4 points; Third 3 points; Fourth 2 points; Fifth 1 point.
JBS have now come on board to help promote the beef grown in the Isaac Region and will serve the carcass steer entries in selected local pubs around Central Queensland, with the Clermont Cattle King’s steer being served at the Clermont Commercial Hotel following the show.
This year’s steers have finished their time on grass and have now moved to the Paringa feedlot where they will spend the next 100 days on grain.
